My Dog Woody

This is a story about my dog Woody. The Superdog.

I love dogs. I think that we all feel that our dogs are special. It's normal. We experience the early months with happy kisses and puppy breath, wagging tails and we have so much fun watching them grow and learn, training them how to fetch a ball or catch the frizbee. Those are special times. I am still working on the fetch thing with Woody. After all this time trying to teach him, he just doesn't get it yet. I think he doesn't see well or maybe he's a little dense. I don't know, but he is still very special to me.

He does not bark at strangers. He doesn't bark at all. He's actually a very disciplined dog. He just has that special quality about him. He doesn't eat much either. From what I've seen the ants take most of his food away before he gets to it.  He looks like any other dog though, he is big, brown, has big droopy ears, sits and stays. He's really good at that! He's an outdoor dog which is good and the weather never bothers him. I have a special dog house for him and he seems to like it...an old phone booth for my Superdog. Hot, cold, raining, it's just no big deal to him. He just sits there watching over his domain.

He is always there for me. When I need a friend I can go out and sit with him and tell him my troubles and I think he kinda' understands. We are good for each other. We can sit for hours, just me and my dog, doing nothing but enjoying our quality time together. These times for us are priceless. He will be in my heart forever!

He is fearless. He is a true Superdog. A Warrior dog...afraid of nothing, except maybe termites.

June 22, 2011

Yesterday was the Summer Solstice. It is the longest day of the year and a traditional cause for celebration for me. My plans to take care of some "important" business fell through as if some thing was telling me to go in a different direction...and I did. Instead of going to Hilo Town I went to Kahena Beach. I had not been to Kahena in a long time and I am so happy that I went. I played in the wild surf, got sand between my toes and elsewhere and got too much sun. I took a bunch of photos, met some very cool people and was able to breathe deep and find my grounding again. This is exactly what I needed to do. Business would just have to wait.

On the way back from Kahena, I stopped by my favorite place in Puna, Pahoa Town. I took more pictures and stopped by the Pahoa Museum for a quick tour of what I had been missing since my last visit. They now have a considerable collection of Hawaii memorabilia and they have created the look and feel of a first class museum. They have a website to go to for more information: pahoavillagemuseum.net.

As I was leaving, I noticed a gentleman sitting at a sidewalk table with a chess board set up and ready for play. I accepted his invitation to a game. His name is Remy and he plays a good game of chess. He wupped me good!

So my lesson for the day was for me to follow my instincts and to take care of my spiritual needs as well as the business of my life. I am so much better today because of my little adventure yesterday. So be it. J.Osprey
