You can't get there from here.

Sunday.
It used to be just another day of the usual for me and my friend  Aniel, kind of a schedule for us: take the rubbish to Kea'au recycle, turn in my green bottles for cash, search the store for bargains and get our water jugs filled Then we head to the Maku'u Farmer's Market to stock up on bananas from Marvin and other good grinds and talk story with anyone that will listen. I talk mostly about my website and blog...can't help it.

But this one Sunday was a bit different.  Our new friend Jeff was with us. The three of us started the day laughing at everything and each other, and I had the feeling that this was not gonna be a "normal" Sunday for us. There were signs along the way. We decided to head over to Malama Market for some snacks, and we loaded up on 3 kinds of Poke, some Kettle chips and of course some green bottles. So with our bags of pupu's and beer and the three of us loaded into the truck, we decided to go on a picnic. So NOW the adventure begins. We wound up at the warm ponds at noonish and the sky was clear and the sun felt good on our skin.

This IS Paradise

Now the ponds are nice but I didn't want to bask in the shadow of the lifeguard tower. It's just not my style. So I started sniffing out a little more private place of our own where we could be as socially incorrect as we wanted...and we were! There is an area on the other side of the wall that has a beautiful crystal clear and natural pond. A bit rough and rocky, but Aniel laid out the mats and made it comfy for us. The saltwater felt Sooo Good! We floated around, laid out on the rocks and soaked up the sun like the Honu and just accepted the gifts of the Punaverse.

And yes Martha, there ARE mermaids in our Punaverse.

This kind of fun can make one a bit thirsty, so Aniel poured some beer for us and it was good. Jeff had a little flask of what he called a nectar punch but it was more like nectar WITH a punch, and life got just a little bit better...and sillier and oh boy, here we go!  We devoured the poke...Oyster kine, Wasabe kine and da kine..regular with onions and nori. Ono grindz bra, and more nectar and beer down to the last cup.

Now here's the situation: 3 punatics and only one cup of beer left. What do ya do? You share, right? Yep. Now my memory is not crystal clear on who's idea it was but I think Aniel came up with the idea of sharing the last cup...all at once. The last beer in Puna game. It was hilarious!!! So I'm holding the camera and we put our heads together to do this thing we were laughing so hard and my camera hand was shaking and I wasn't sure I was getting us all in frame or not. I just kept shooting...and we kept laughing. I wonder if anyone was watching. I hope not. They would want to have us committed to an institution...again.

I think Letterman would have fun with this story. Maybe "Stupid Human Tricks" or maybe we would make his top 10 list: "10 reasons to not be seen in public with these 3 Punatics".

I will end this story by claiming that it was just another case of spontaneous idiocy. It happens to me...a lot.

AND

The key to living a full and healthy life: Laugh....

A LOT!

I am looking forward to the next blog: Aniel's take:
A Spontaneous Celebration.

See you then. J.Osprey

Note: No animals or humans were injured during the course this story.
