One Man's Treasure

In Puna, we do things a bit different...and this is good.

My Sunday schedule usually is to go to the Kea'au Transfer Station to drop off my rubbish and other recyclables, get water and get money for my green bottles. The same as so many of us do on any other day of the week.
I usually dress up for Sunday. It is my special "get out of the cave" day. Dressing up means wearing a clean t-shirt with no holes in it. Aniel is constantly and gently reminding me to upgrade my style...so I got new slippa. She was not amused... not exactly what she had in mind, so we did some shopping at the Recycling Center there a couple of weeks ago and had some good fun. I got a couple of nice shirts for a buck each and Aniel found some cool Puna threads too. We are stylin' now!  The Recycle adventure is like a yard sale every week and who knows what treasures you might find.

There are some major changes taking place here now. We have a very nice water station and the bottle recycling center has been moved. The recycle sales center is in a temporary location near the water station but will find a new home on the property soon. The great changes also include some high tech improvements as well. The computer system used to track bottle redemption is Solar Powered. Very cool. I like the changes and may hang out there just a little bit longer next Sunday. Lookin' for some board shorts and kitchen stuff for my new digs.

Some things have not changed though. Still got 'em chickens.

I want to thank Aniel for her help with this and many other stories here on the Punaverse Blog. I am sorry to say that she has decided to move on with her other many endeavors and I sincerely wish her great success and Aloha in her life. We all will miss you.
