Hawaiian Acres

Breakfast is ready
Sunday is my day at the Maku'u Farmer's Market, but on Saturday, I spend my mornings at the Hawaiian Acres Community Center. It all starts with a short walk down to 8 rd. and C for a free pancake breakfast and a chat with our host, chief cook and dishwasher John. We all bring something to help the cause like pancake batter, syrup, butter or coffee. It's good to get to know others in our community and many of them gather here on Saturday. We have a small "market" with vendors selling odds and ends, plants, eggs, honey and occasional treasures. Of course I'm always walking around talking story and taking photos.

The 1st Saturday of the month is free WiFi day for the H.A. residents.

Getting in touch with the Punaverse
In August, on a beautiful Hawaii Saturday evening, Leo did a gig for the 40th anniversary of Woodstock. What a hoot. He had a sound system hooked up to his computer and played a lot of great old rock 'n Roll and we all danced; moms, dads, keiki....many of us had a circle of chairs out on the lawn and talked story as the music played. There was another Saturday nite dance for Valentine's Day. Community is a good thing and you can share in the fun. Just stop by on any Saturday morning, check out the vendors, have some pancakes and introduce yourself. It's just a very nice place to be. Check the calendar for upcoming events. You will be glad you did.
