Spam anyone?

Thanks to Chuck Sanders for this fun and so true story on Spam

Today while shopping at Wal-mart with my lovely wife Maraia, I was left standing in this one isle while she went over to another isle to find some things. I began to check out what was in my isle when I came across the Spam section. I noticed there were fourteen different types of Spam. FOURTEEN. I never knew. What ever happened to just plain Spam? I looked closer and found smoked Spam, low sodium Spam, chunk Spam, single serving Spam, Spam with Tabasco, Garlic Spam and a myriad of other types of Spam, but no plain Spam.

I thought to myself how confusing things had gotten. I even mentioned it to this young lady who looked at me like I was some crazy pervert for even mentioning it to her, but I was really amazed, and if she did not see the amazement in it, well, that was her loss! Of course she probably had grown up with all these types of spam after all and thought me someone dated for mentioning it. Of course to date someone you need to have some form of reference point, she obviously had none, as I probably retired from the Marines before she was born in 1986 and had eaten a lot of plain Spam by that time.

I went through this mental game with myself as I continued my search for the regular Spam. My favorite. Oh! There it was! It was almost hidden in this obscure corner behind all the other types of Spam.

That is when it hit me. No matter how you cover it, spice it or add to it, slice it, dice it or cut it, deep down inside it is still Spam. I like SPAM. The truth is I never wanted to know what it's made of since I liked it and that is all I needed to know. Sometimes having too much information can ruin a good thing, sometimes knowing just enough is sufficient.  Maybe.

When I got home I did a bit of spam research on the internet and found other Spam products like Spam flavored hot dogs and Spam spread. Spam started in 1937, Hawaii has the most Spam consumption in the U.S. I also found out that there is a Spam Jam in Waikiki and a Spam Festival in J.Osprey's home town of Shady Cove, Oregon and even a Broadway play called Spamalot. Spam is used as an adjective a noun and a verb. Again, too much information.
I even found spam flavored Macadamia nuts.

I have mentioned Spam 29 times in this story. So if you don't already have too much information on spam, here is a link to the Monty Python Spam skit on Youtube. Make that 32 times.

Love and Respect,
Col. Chuck Sanders
